I believe that success is about the journey and not the destination. I've been successful in my life because I am constantly working toward additional achievements, a more varied skillset, and a wider community. I have spent many years at higher education, and I stay grounded by organizing lots of groups for my many hobbies and interests.
I am a Senior Security Risk Analyst at Xcel Energy, and I work with internal business areas to understand the cyber security risks that could be introduced to the company's environments with new processes, products, and services. I started at the organization as a Solutions Consultant, laying the groundwork for security-based projects. It was a natural progression to move to the enterprise security organization, and my ten years of experience as an IT Project Manager has been very beneficial. It is challenging and rewarding work full of opportunities.
I also own a company, Glowball Solutions. I've been working as an independent contractor and project manager through my business since 2004, primarily for the federal government. Though I only work on small projects after hours now, I was self-employed until early 2014 when I cut my contracting hours down to just a few every month to allow for a full-time position. I also have a Master's Degree in Project Management, and I am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
I started my professional career as a Web Developer, and I was fortunate to be a part of a few high-performance teams. At StorageTek in the late 90s, I was given the opportunity to develop the Intranet site for the Support team as I worked in UNIX support. At Exabyte, I led our Web team as we developed a large and comprehensive public-facing site for our customers. Finally, at Maxtor I was able to work with a skilled Project Manager on even larger projects. All of these companies were technology manufacturers in the area, and I enjoyed each position as I grew, professionally.
I am looking forward to working with larger groups of stakeholders and the challenges they present for communication and engagement. My dream job would be to work on security-focused projects as I can bring a lot to the role and it would provide an environment where I could continue to learn.
